Build a wazôasisa and compete in the Snow Snake Games at Retreat Farm!
Join us on Sunday, February 11th, to craft your very own wazôasisa (snow snake). Presented by the Atowi Project and Retreat Farm, the Snow Snake Workshop and Games will introduce you to a traditional winter game played by Abenaki and other Indigenous nations in their homelands during periods of prevalent snow. This winter pastime consists of a track of mounded and packed snow on which players slide their wazôasisa (snow snakes) and compete for distance records.
Find out if your snow snake can go the distance!
Power and sharp-edged tools will be utilized during the workshop. Each workshop will be capped at 10 people. Participants will keep their snowsnake and are invited to compete in the Snowsnake Games on Sunday, March 3rd. If you can’t attend the workshop, you can still participate in the Snow Snake Games.
Workshops will be held from 9am to Noon and from 1pm to 4pm, on Sunday, February 11th.
This free workshop is presented by the Atowi Project and funded in part by Vermont Humanities.
