COMMUNITY BUILD PROJECT

We’re teaming up with HatchSpace for a Forest to Farm Table

A unique opportunity to build hand-crafted tables for the community.

We’re teaming up with HatchSpace to teach local high school students and community members woodworking skills.

Teams will use locally sourced pine to craft 40 farm tables for the North Barn at Retreat Farm.

What is the purpose of the Forest to Farm Table project?

The Forest to Farm Table community build is an effort to create 40 banquet tables for Retreat Farm’s North Barn. These tables will be used by the community for celebrations, conferences, lectures, weddings, and nonprofit events.

Why Forest to Farm Table?

Each table will be crafted from northern pine and hardwood from regional forests and transformed into beautiful event tables.

Who can participate in a build?

Retreat Farm and HatchSpace are looking for eight local organizations or groups to “adopt” a set of 5 tables, engaging in the process as a team-building experience.

Youth ages 16+ are welcome to participate with a guardian’s permission. An adult must be present with participants under 18.

Are prior woodworking skills required?

Not at all. HatchSpace will provide training to mill, cut, and assemble tables. Though no experience is required, it is important that volunteers are comfortable in a shop environment.

How many people are needed for each build?

A minimum of six people should adopt a build. If it is any less than six, the work burden becomes significant.

What’s the time commitment?

A set of five tables will be completed during a 3-week build. Each volunteer should plan on participating in (2) three-hour sessions. If there are more than six team members, volunteers may only need to participate in one session.

What’s involved in a build?

A build requires volunteers to mill wood for cutting and assembly. The items that need to be cut and assembled are the tabletop, sawhorse legs, and accompanying hardware.

What is the cost of participation?

There is no cost to volunteers! If you are interested in sponsoring a table to cover the cost of materials and support HatchSpace educators leading the project, please contact Kristin Sullivan at ksullivan@retreatfarm.org.

How do I sign up?

To sign up your organization or group, please complete the registration form. Each individual in your team or group must also complete a separate registration form.
